Still Dad Guide

Bad Days Happen

Some days just feel off. I started keeping reminders not to make big decisions on bad days.

You woke up, checked your phone, and it's already wrong. Nothing happened. Nothing needed to happen. It's just one of those days where the weight is heavier and you can feel it before you even get out of bed.

Some days aren’t for progress.

They’re for containment.

Getting through is the win.

If Today Sucks

Don’t problem-solve.

Stabilize.

eat something with protein

drink water

take a shower

go for a 10-minute walk

make no life decisions today

Handle the body first.

The mind usually follows.

A bad day doesn’t mean:

you’re backsliding

you broke something

all the work didn’t count

It means you’re human and carrying a lot.

This day doesn’t get to define you.

Self-Compassion Lines

Use these as anchors, not affirmations:

“This is temporary.”

“I’m not failing, I’m tired.”

“This won’t matter in a year.”

Say them plainly.

No convincing required.

Lower the Bar on Purpose

On hard days:

do less

expect less

forgive more

Staying intact matters more than staying productive.

End-of-Day Reset

Before the day ends:

name one small win

lay out tomorrow’s clothes

go to bed earlier than usual

That’s enough.

Tomorrow can be different.

When bad days are handled gently:

they don’t stack

they don’t spill onto your kids

they don’t turn into shame

You pass through them instead of getting stuck.

Having one right now?

Talk it through. No fixing required.
